Donegal Town is also a renowned centre for the tweed industry here in Ireland and is home to the Magee of Donegal brand who are world-renowned manufacturers of Donegal Tweed.

From modest beginnings in 1866, when John Magee began buying and selling tweed, the business has flourished and today Magee are still designing and weaving luxury fabrics in the town.

The ever-changing land and seascapes of Donegal inspire both colour and design and they use only the finest of yarns – cashmere, lambswool, alpaca, silk and linen – for men and women’s apparel and home furnishing.

Magee still maintain a small hand-weaving business though today’s fabrics are a far cry from the coarse tweeds of the 1800s, woven as they are using luxury yarns that result in a beautifully soft handle. Every Magee collection, whether fabric, garment or accessory is designed to reflect their distinctive Donegal heritage with a contemporary twist.
